Sorption of reactive red by biochars ball milled in different atmospheres: Co-effect of surface morphology and functional groups

Xiaoyun Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, biochars were ball milled in different atmospheres to investigate their physicochemical properties and pollutant removal capacities. The oxygen-limited atmosphere of N2 and vacuum was found to be more favorable for reducing biochar size and increasing surface area. Different atmospheres also affected the formation of surface functional groups on the biochars. The removal capacity of biochars for reactive red was increased by ball milling, with N2 and vacuum atmospheres showing superior enhancement compared to air atmosphere.

Adsorptive removal of cationic methylene blue and anionic Congo red dyes using wet-torrefied microalgal biochar: Equilibrium, kinetic and mechanism modeling

Kai Ling Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption behavior of cationic and anionic dyes onto wet-torrefied Chlorella sp. microalgal biochar. The Langmuir isotherm was found to be the best model fit, suggesting monolayer adsorption as the dominant process, with maximum adsorption capacities of 113.00 mg/g for MB and 164.35 mg/g for CR. The results indicate that utilizing wet-torrefied microalgal biochar as an effective adsorbent for toxic dye removal is feasible.

Nano-zerovalent manganese/biochar composite for the adsorptive and oxidative removal of Congo-red dye from aqueous solutions

Jibran Iqbal et al.

Summary: The composite of nZVMn and PBC showed higher adsorption capacity for CR compared to PBC alone, and the addition of H2O2 further enhanced the removal efficiency. The study also revealed the formation of non-toxic inorganic acetate products during the degradation process, indicating the potential of the new adsorbent for CR removal.

Investigations into distribution and characterisation of products formed during hydrothermal carbonisation of paunch waste

Mojtaba Hedayati Marzbali et al.

Summary: This study found that higher bio-oil yield can be obtained from paunch waste under relatively mild hydrothermal carbonisation conditions, which is mainly due to the fragile nature of paunch waste, higher water, volatile matter, and carbohydrate content, and lower lignin and ash content. The resulting hydrochar has a higher heating value and BET surface area, making it suitable as a coal substitute or porous medium in various applications.
