Pseudomonas aeruginosa Susceptibility Patterns and Associated Clinical Outcomes in People with Cystic Fibrosis following Approval of Aztreonam Lysine for Inhalation

Claire L. Keating et al.

Summary: The study tracked susceptibility changes and clinical outcomes in CF patients with chronic P. aeruginosa infection over five years, finding a consistent proportion meeting the primary endpoint annually, but with no association with prior AZLI use. Patients meeting the primary endpoint experienced more pulmonary exacerbations and hospitalizations, despite comparable declines in lung function between those who did and did not meet the endpoint.

Antibacterial and antibiofilm potential of silver nanoparticles against antibiotic-sensitive and multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains

Davi de Lacerda Coriolano et al.

Summary: This study reviews the antibacterial and antibiofilm activity of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) against Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains, showing promising potential for future therapeutic applications and efficacy against drug-resistant strains. AgNPs with smaller particle sizes have greater contact surface area with microorganisms, affecting their vital functioning. AgNPs adhere to the cytoplasmic membrane and cell wall of microorganisms, causing disruption, penetrating the cell, interacting with cellular structures, and inducing the generation of reactive oxygen species and free radicals.
