Gut microbiome is affected by inter-sexual and inter-seasonal variation in diet for thick-billed murres (Uria lomvia)

Esteban Gongora et al.

Summary: The gut microbiome of thick-billed murres was dominated by Catellicoccus bacteria, influenced by factors like littoral carbon, trophic position, and sulfur isotopes in their diet. Differences in bacterial genera abundance were observed between sexes and reproductive stages, in line with behavioral observations of diet variations. Individual prey specialization and sexual/reproductive stage differences in diet may contribute to the observed variation in the gut microbiome.
