Single-cell transcriptomic atlas of primate cardiopulmonary aging

Shuai Ma et al.

Summary: The research indicates that aging is associated with increased systemic inflammation and compromised virus defense in the cardiopulmonary system. With age, expression of the SARS-CoV-2 receptor ACE2 increases, while the accumulation of the cytokine IL7 induces ACE2 expression. Treatment with vitamin C can block IL7-induced ACE2 expression, suggesting that geroprotective strategies may reduce the severity of COVID-19 in the elderly.

MATH plus protocol for the treatment of SARS-CoV-2 infection: the scientific rationale

Paul E. Marik et al.

Summary: The pulmonary phase of COVID-19 is characterized by organizing pneumonia with immune dysregulation, clotting activation, and microvascular injury leading to severe hypoxemia. The MATH+ protocol combines methylprednisolone, ascorbic acid, thiamine, and heparin to manage this phase. While there is no single cure for COVID-19, the MATH+ protocol is believed to effectively treat respiratory failure and prevent complications and death.
