Environment and horticulture in the Byzantine Negev Desert, Israel: sustainability, prosperity and enigmatic decline

This study addresses historical questions relevant to the modern era, highlighting the existence of flourishing societies in challenging environments, overexploitation of the natural environment, and neglect of sustainability.
