This article discusses the speculative nature of the origin and zoonotic transmission route of SARS-CoV-2. The authors explore scenarios for the zoonotic emergence of the virus and highlight the importance of missing evidence and ecological considerations in identifying the origin and transmission route of SARS-CoV-2 to prevent future pandemics of zoonotic viruses.
The origin and zoonotic transmission route of SARS-CoV-2 remain speculative. We discuss scenarios for the zoonotic emergence of SARS-CoV-2, and also explore the missing evidence and ecological considerations that are necessary to confidently identify the origin and transmission route of SARS-CoV-2 and to prevent future pandemics of zoonotic viruses.
