Parent, alkylated, oxygenated and nitrated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in PM2.5 emitted from residential biomass burning and coal combustion: A novel database of 14 heating scenarios

Yue Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that the emission factors (EFs) of PAHs from biomass burning were in the range of 84.5-344 mg/kg, and from coal combustion were in the range of 38.0-206 mg/kg. Emission factors were lower from high-density biomass fuels than low-maturity coal fuels.

Optically Measured Black and Particulate Brown Carbon Emission Factors from Real-World Residential Combustion Predominantly Affected by Fuel Differences

Lu Zhang et al.

Summary: This study assessed particulate BC and BrC emissions from real-world indoor coal and biomass burning, finding that coal cake combustion had the highest BC EF and charcoal burning had the highest BrC EF. Using iron stoves for burning fuel resulted in lower BC and BrC EFs, and the difference between heating and cooking activities was not statistically significant.

Size and chemical characteristics of particles emitted from typical rural biomass cookstoves in North China

Tingkun Li et al.

Summary: The emission characteristics of biomass combustion in rural household stoves in northern China were studied. The results showed that particle number concentration (PNC) and particle mass concentration (PMC) peaked at specific size ranges, and the mass concentrations of OC and EC exhibited a bell-shaped distribution.
