Probabilistic structure of events controlling the after-storm recovery of coastal dunes

Summary: The research shows that global HWEs (high-water events) exhibit a certain level of consistency and can be modeled as a marked Poisson process with exponentially distributed sizes or marks when overtopping the beach. Additionally, the characteristic beach elevation at each location appears to be related to a constant HWE frequency of about one event per month, indicating a stochastic dynamics behind beach stabilization.
