Bio-inspired graphene-coated ball screws: Novel approach to reduce the thermal deformation of ball screws

Yueyang Guo et al.

Summary: By drawing inspiration from the heat dissipation mechanism of silver ants, a novel bio-inspired graphene-coated ball screw design was developed to enhance heat dissipation and reduce thermal deformation. Finite element analysis and comparative experiments confirmed the superiority of this bio-inspired design in addressing thermal issues in machine tools.

Positioning accuracy degradation and lifetime prediction of the ball screw considering time-varying working conditions and feed modes

Qiang Cheng et al.

Summary: The study developed an exponential prediction model for the positioning accuracy of BSM based on time-varying working conditions, using a macro-micro multiscale method. The microscopic wear process and positioning accuracy retention were investigated, and tests were conducted to determine the characteristics of BSM positioning accuracy under normal feed mode. The exponential wear model was used to describe wear status and predict accuracy loss values and positioning accuracy lifetime.

Precision loss of ball screw mechanism under sliding-rolling mixed motion behavior

Bao-bao Qi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the precision loss of ball screws due to sliding-rolling mixed motion behavior, considering factors such as creep, lubrication, and sliding behavior. The analytical results align well with experimental conclusions, aiding in predicting precision loss accurately during stable wear periods.

A new exponential wear model to analyze precision retention of guideway based on macro-micro multiscale method

Qiang Cheng et al.

Summary: In this paper, a multiscale method based on the quasicontinuum medium principle is proposed to describe the degradation process of guideway linear precision using an exponential model. By obtaining micro-topography information of the guideway surface through the Depth From Defocus (DFD) method, the wear state of the guideway is verified under different loading conditions, confirming the validity of using the QM method to establish the guideway exponential wear model.
