A simple spectrophotometric method to determine phytic acid in poultry wastewater without acid digestion

Summary: Wastewater from animal husbandry treatment plants is often used to irrigate agricultural lands based on nitrogen requirements, but to prevent soil phosphorus accumulation, lower levels of total phosphorus are necessary. One method involves eliminating dissolved organic phosphorus (DOP). The main DOP compound in animal wastes, phytic acid (PA), can strongly bind to soils, making it unavailable for plant uptake. This study evaluates a simple analytical procedure for measuring PA concentration in manure wastewater.
