The electropolymerization of L-lanthionine was developed for the first time on glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The polymeric conditions (pH of polymeric solution, concentration of L-lanthionine and polymerization cycle) were discussed by orthogonal test. A new voltammetric sensor was constructed by L-lanthionine. The electrochemical performance of the poly(L-lanthionine)/GCE for esculetin measurement was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The sensor presented a high sensitivity of 539.8 mu A mM(-1) cm(-2) over 5.0-100 nM esculetin concentration range with a detection limit of 1.0 nM (S/ N = 3). The sensor showed good recovery data for the analysis of esculetin in cortex fraxini sample.
