Treatment Outcomes in Chronic Rhinosinusitis Refractory to Maximal Medical Therapy: A Prospective Observational Study Under Real-World Conditions

Daniel Dejaco et al.

Summary: The study explored the outcomes of four standardized treatments in patients with refractory chronic rhinosinusitis and found that endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) resulted in significantly lower symptom scores compared to medical treatments. Both patients with and without nasal polyps showed improvement in symptoms after treatment, with those opting for ESS experiencing less symptoms during the first year of follow-up. Patients with refractory chronic rhinosinusitis did not benefit from additional courses of maximal medical therapy in comparison to nasal steroids and irrigation alone.
