Limitations, lack of standardization, and recommended best practices in studies of renewable energy effects on birds and bats

Tara J. Conkling et al.

Summary: The study reviewed a large number of publications and reports on renewable energy facilities in the US and Canada, finding that postconstruction monitoring for wildlife fatalities and habitat use is common but preconstruction estimation of baseline wildlife habitat use and mortality is less frequent. Only a small percentage of facilities provided data from both pre- and postconstruction, indicating a lack of standardized data collection practices across facilities.
