Omics-based tracking of Pseudomonas aeruginosa persistence in eradicated cystic fibrosis patients

Jennifer A. Bartell et al.

Summary: The study reveals that some CF patients may continue to be infected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa even after antibiotic therapy, suggesting the need for tailored antibiotic treatment. It also finds that most patients' infections are associated with surgery, and persistent infection is due to the re-emergence of the same strain rather than re-infection from the environment.

Multiple breath washout quality control in the clinical setting

Bettina S. Frauchiger et al.

Summary: Real-time quality control (QC) of multiple breath washout (MBW) data during the measurement process is feasible in the clinical setting and leads to improved test acceptability. Before the implementation of real-time QC, only 58% of MBW tests were deemed acceptable, but this percentage increased to 75% in Bern and 70% in Zurich after the implementation of real-time QC. The agreement between MBW operators and an experienced reviewer for test acceptability was 84% in Bern and 93% in Zurich after real-time QC was implemented.
