The Interplay of the Genetic Architecture, Aging, and Environmental Factors in the Pathogenesis of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

Annie Pardo et al.

Summary: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic fibrosing lung disease with unknown etiology and limited treatment options, influenced by genetic predisposition, aging, and environmental factors. Environmental exposures lead to activation of lung epithelial cells, resulting in expansion of specific subsets of fibroblasts and myofibroblasts, ultimately leading to fibrosis and loss of lung function.
