Elastic Depths for Detecting Shape Anomalies in Functional Data

Trevor Harris et al.

Summary: The elastic depths are a new family of depth measures that greatly improve shape anomaly detection in functional data by using elastic distances to directly measure the centrality of functions in amplitude and phase spaces. This rigorous quantification of shape in these spaces gives the elastic depths a strong theoretical and practical advantage over other methods in detecting shape anomalies. The method is demonstrated on manifold valued functional data using hurricane trajectories.
