Turmeric-powder extract was used to biosynthesize silver nanoparticles (TuAgNP), which showed effective anticancer and antibacterial properties against various cancer cell lines and Escherichia coli strains.
Turmeric, the natural herbal spice has been used to treat various diseases including many types of cancers. To further enhance its effects, silver nanoparticles (TuAgNP) were biosynthesized using Turmeric-powder extract. The anticancer studies on MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, and MCF 10A cell lines showed the EC50 values of 0.146 mg/mL and 0.141 mg/mL, respectively. Antioxidant Activity of TuAgNP was observed as 77% for 0.5 mg/mL. The antibacterial activity was assessed inEscherichia colistrains, namely, ATCC (25922) control, CTXM-15 negative, and CTXM-15 positive. The MIC was observed as 6.25 mu g/mL for ATCC (25922) control, CTXM-15 negative strains, and 12.5 mu g/mL for CTXM-15 positive strains. The MBC values were observed as 6.25 mu g/mL, 25 mu g/mL, and 50 mu g/mL for ATCC (25922) control, CTXM-15 negative and CTXM-15 positive strains, respectively. The results suggest that TuAgNps can be utilized as an effective anticancer and antibacterial agent.
