The photoluminescence (PL) properties of NaCaPO4:Dy3+ phosphor synthesized by sol-gel method forms the main focus of this report. The structural, morphological and luminescence properties of the NaCaPO4:Dy3+ phosphors were examined using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and PL. The structure of the phosphor with the optimum Dy3+-concentrafion was refined using the Rietveld method. The PL spectra under 350 nm excitation revealed three peaks in the blue, yellow and red region. Stark splitting was observed for the blue emission peak. The thermal quenching behavior of the PL emission of the phosphor was analyzed to determine its thermal stability.
