This study performed the synthesis of mesoporous gamma-Al2O3 with controllable morphology. The pure ethanol-thermal method was adopted to prepare hydrangea-like boehmite from well-crystallized gibbsite. Preferential growth of (120), (031), and (200) planes benefits the formation of nanoflakes, which self-assemble into hydrangea-like boehmite. After boehmite calcination at 550 degrees C for 2 h, gamma-Al2O3 inheriting boehmite morphology contains a large number of tetrahedral AlO4, and has a specific surface area of 152.8 m(2)/g and an average pore diameter of 18.98 nm. This study provides a valuable reference for recycling and efficient production. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
