microRNA in inflammatory bowel disease at a glance

Summary: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) consists of chronic inflammation in colon and small intestine, with two subtypes: ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD) related to microRNAs (miRNAs) expression and environmental factors. Recent research has shown the important roles of miRNAs in CD and UC diseases, especially in fast diagnosis and grade prediction. MiRNAs serve as efficient diagnostic molecules in discriminating IBD subtypes, and can be utilized for disease detection and classification using microarray and real time PCR methods.
