Research in the field of semiconductor photocatalysis plays a crucial role in addressing the global energy crisis. The recent discovery of 2D BP, or phosphorene, offers new hope for solving energy issues, while studies on the material's morphology and eco-friendly energy production through density functional theory provide a better understanding.
The global energy crisis is a major issue to get resolved immediately, and a number of researches have been made in the field of semiconductor photocatalysis in order to fix these crises. The recent isolation of 2D BP, i.e. phosphorene, has shown a great hope for the solution of this problem. 2D materials are already famous since the fabrication of graphene due to their remarkable properties of stability, surface area, strength, strain, magnetic properties and flexibility, meanwhile, the fabrication of phosphorene seems like the star of the show. Different electronic and structural properties which have been studied through density functional theory provides a better understanding about the morphology of the material as well as how exactly to use this material in order to produce sufficient energy through an eco-friendly way. A whole range of applications regarding energy harvesting has been discussed in detail, along with the morphology control of this material.
