The extinct order Tarachoptera is limited to Burmese amber inclusions, belonging to the Amphiesmenoptera and consisting of ten described species in three genera within the family Tarachocelidae. Morphological features of adults are described with a diagnosis of four autapomorphic characters, along with photos of several species and line drawings of typical characters such as wing venation, head, and mouthparts. The described species of Tarachoptera are summarized in a checklist.
The order Tarachoptera is an extinct group of insects confined to inclusions of Burmese amber. It is included in Amphiesmenoptera and comprises ten described species to date, belonging to three genera summarized in the single family Tarachocelidae. The morphological features of the adults are described, and a diagnosis including four autapomorphic characters is provided. Photos of several species and line drawings of typical characters like wing venation, head, and mouthparts are presented. The hitherto described species of Tarachoptera are summarized in a checklist.
