Based on combination of the prototype microelastic brittle (PMB) model and the viscoelastic Kelvin-Voigt model, we propose a peridynamic (PD) rate-dependent constitutive equation and a new interlayer bond describing interlayer interactions of fiber reinforced composite laminate. They are used to simulate total process from low-velocity collision to high-velocity penetration appearing in composite laminate. The influences of impacting velocity on the damage pattern and damaged area of composite laminate are analyzed and discussed. The results reveal that impacting damage in composite laminate is caused by the stretching strain. With the impacting velocity increasing gradually, the damage firstly occurs at the fixed edges, subsequently on the bottom and finally on the top surface of composite laminate. Meanwhile, owing to competition between damage and damping, the damaged area of composite laminate firstly rises with an increase in impacting velocity and reaches a peak, and then decreases rapidly.
