Pt supported on anatase TiO(2 )with {001} facets was prepared by the anatase TiO2 with {001} facets dipped in a Pt(NO3)(2) solution and reduced by a NaBH4 solution. The Pt/TiO2 sample was characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectrographs, X-ray photoelectron spectra, and diffusive reflectance UV-vis-IR absorption. Pt/TiO2 not only reveals the especially prominent photothermocatalytic activity efficiency for benzene abatement under the irradiation of the full solar spectrum but also presents excellent durability. Remarkably, the initial CO2 production rate of Pt/TiO(2 )tremendously increases 674 times more than pure anatase TiO2 with {001} facets. Impressively, the Pt/TiO2 sample exhibits excellent UV-vis-infrared light-driven photothermocatalytic activity, even under the irradiation of the light wavelength above 690 nm. The origination of the excellent UV-vis-infrared light-driven photothermocatalytic activity is the UV-vis-infrared light-driven photothermocatalytic synergetic effect between the photocatalysis and the light-driven thermocatalysis on Pt/TiO2, which remarkably enhances the oxidation of benzene.
