World-Class Long-Distance Running Performances Are Best Predicted by Volume of Easy Runs and Deliberate Practice of Short-Interval and Tempo Runs

Arturo Casado et al.

Summary: This study found that easy continuous runs and deliberate practice of short-interval and tempo runs are key factors in predicting world-class long-distance running performances in male runners. Total distance run and the type of training activities, particularly easy runs and tempo runs, significantly contributed to performance improvement. Coaches should consider the balance between deliberate practice and non-DP activities, such as easy runs, for optimal results.
