Magnetic extractants have been widely explored for beneficial food ingredients or food contaminants extraction and determination. Recently, various novel magnetic extractants in food analytical science have been continually explored. In this review, the emerging magnetic extractants in recent years are presented and classified, their functionalization strategies are summarized and reviewed, their applications are discussed and evaluated, and their development trends are further identified and presented. This comprehensive and detailed review not only can guide and promote the exploration and application of the emerging magnetic extractants, but also can provide necessary technology support for food analytes extraction and analysis.
