A new cycloartane triterpene bisdesmoside, soulieoside U, was isolated from the rhizomes of Actaea vaginata. Its structure was determined by extensive analysis of NMR and MS data. Soulieoside U was evaluated for cytotoxic activities against three human cancer cell lines.
