The effect of artificial aging on the mechanical properties of Al6082 alloy and Al6082/(2 - 10%)Al(2)O(3)composite produced by stir casting is studied. The structure is studied with the help of a field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). The stress-strain curves, the impact energy and the hardness are measured. It is shown that growth in the fraction of the hardening phase and artificial aging (180 degrees C, 2 h) raise the tensile strength, the hardness and the fracture toughness and provide uniform distribution of Al(2)O(3)particles in the matrix.
