The segregation of lithium atoms at grain boundaries was successfully confirmed by microstructural observation through electron energy-loss spectroscopy measurements. Results obtained from room-temperature tensile tests and observations of the deformed microstructure revealed that the grain boundary segregation of lithium atoms played a role in enhancing grain boundary sliding but accelerated grain boundary embrittlement.
