Solubility and activity coefficients of uranium in bimetallic Ga-In and Ga-Al liquid alloys

The equilibrium potentials of U3+/U couple, triple U-Ga-In and U-Ga-Al alloys versus Cl-/Cl(2)reference electrode in the temperature range 723-823 K in fused LiCl-KCl eutectic in inert atmosphere were carried out by open-circuit potentiometry. The apparent standard potentials of U3+/U couple and triple alloys were determined. The activity, solubility and activity coefficients of uranium in bimetallic liquid Ga-In and Ga-Al eutectic alloys were calculated. The results show the high interaction between uranium and liquid metals due to the formation of intermetallic compounds. The principle thermodynamic properties of triple U-Ga-In and U-Ga-Al alloys were determined.
