This correspondence presents an extension to the article A New Method of Source and Reservoir Rock Pyrolysis to Determine the Boiling Point Distribution of Petroleum in Rock Samples by Beti et al. (2018). Thermal desorption-gas chromatography (TD-GC) analysis of S1 peak and the sequential split of S1 into three peaks were performed on a Gothic shale sample from the Paradox Basin, Utah. The results indicate that the total area and composition of the S1 peak that includes all of the hydrocarbon molecules detected are equivalent to the sum of the three sequential peaks. The hydrocarbon distribution of the three sequential peaks was used to predict the range of hydrocarbons detected at Incremental S1 temperatures.
