Microstructure and rheological response of laboratory-aged SBS-modified bitumens

Giacomo Cuciniello et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of laboratory-simulated ageing on Polymer Modified Bitumens (PMBs) and finds that cross-linked polymers have a higher capability of mitigating the hardening effect on bitumen rheological response compared to uncross-linked PMBs. The study also shows that the chemical composition of unmodified bitumens shifts towards heavier molecules after ageing, with limited variation with further ageing.
