A simple azido-substituted fluorescent sensor AHBO showing a selective turn-on response to cysteine (Cys) and glutathione (GSH) over homocysteine (Hcy), sulfide and other amino acids has been constructed, which is based on the mechanism of selective nucleophilic substitution-rearrangement reactions.
