Reducing the hazard of a hydrogen explosion in industrial production is still a challenging issue. This paper aimed to discuss the basic explosion venting dynamics of premixed hydrogen-air fuels (PHAFs) for designing the industrial safety. Based on the explosion characteristics of PHAFs in a spherical sealed container, several sets of tests using an explosion venting device with an inner diameter of 0.34 m were designed. The maximum reduced explosion pressure and flame propagation variation with different bursting pressures were obtained to reduce the explosion severity in a sealed container. Due to the limitations of testing methods, the fields of flame temperature and explosion pressure were difficult to be obtained. It could be readily acquired via various optimisation methods by numerical simulation. As a result of this, the phenomenon of type of explosion venting and under-expansion jet were discussed in detail to evaluate the dynamic hazard of PHAFs explosion venting.
