Chemical corrosion significantly degrades the mechanical properties of non-persistently jointed rocks. In order to improve their physical and mechanical properties, a modification test was conducted using silicone immersion and resin filling in the pre-existing joints after chemical corrosion. Triaxial compression tests confirmed that the modification greatly enhanced the peak strength, elastic modulus, and deformation modulus of jointed rocks. SEM and EDS analysis revealed the mechanism behind the strength improvement induced by the modification.
The chemical corrosion has a significant degradation effect on the mechanical properties of non-persistently jointed rocks. In order to improve their physical and mechanical properties, the modification test was carried out by using silicone immersion and resin filling in the pre-existing joint with different geometries after chemical corrosion. This modification influence on the mechanical properties is verified by triaxial compression tests. Experimental results indicate that peak strength, elastic modulus and deformation modulus of jointed rock improved significantly after modification. Finally, the mechanism of strength improvement induced by the modification was revealed by SEM and EDS analysis.
