There has been an increasing interest in the research of two-dimensional (2D) materials and their electrochemical properties in the past few years. Owing to unique 2D layered structures and electrochemical properties, MoSe2, one of the most studied transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), has attracted tremendous attention in various fields. With the advancement of state-of-the-art approaches for preparing and modifying MoSe2 nanostructures, design and fabrication of novel sensing devices with prominent performance becomes a hot topic in many fields. Numerous sensors and biosensors based on MoSe2 nanostructures have been developed and taken effect in detecting gas, humidity, biomolecules, explosives, medicine, metal ions, food and industrial contaminants. This paper intends to provide a literature review of recent development of MoSe2 based chemical sensors and biosensors, together with some challenges and perspectives for the future.
