Bacterial infection followed by biofilm formation at the site of injury presents an extensive and tenacious challenge to wound care management as it leads to delayed wound healing. Recently nanoparticles and nanofibers have been widely investigated for their superior physical and biological supportive properties. This study presents the green synthesis of nickel oxide nanoparticles using Gymnema sylvestre extracts. The synthesized nanoparticles were infused into electrospun poly-epsilon-caprolactone/Gelatin hybrid nanofibrous mats. As synthesized nanofibrous mats exhibited good wettability, enhanced mechanical properties, biocompatibility and potent antibacterial activity. Overall, the bio functionalized nickel oxide nanoparticles infused electrospun nanofibrous mats can serve as an effective anti-infective wound dressing. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
