Ag2Mo3O10 center dot 1.8H(2)O with a relatively narrow bandgap of 2.69 eV was used to construct an AgI/Ag2Mo3O10 center dot 1.8H(2)O photocatalyst which was found to be more active than AgI and Ag2Mo3O10 center dot 1.8H(2)O in photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes under visible light. The physical and chemical properties of related catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), N-2 adsorption-desorption, diffuse reflectance UV-Vis spectroscopy, photocurrent measurements, photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Through relevant characterization, radical-capturing experiments, and electron spin resonance (ESR) experiments using 5,5-dimethyl-l-pyrroline-N-oxide (DMPO) to detect hydroxyl radicals (center dot OH) and superoxide radicals (center dot O-2(-)), the enhanced activities of AgI/Ag2Mo3O10 center dot 1.8H(2)O was explained.
