CeO2-based heterostructure nanocomposite for electrochemical determination of L-cysteine biomolecule

Herein, heterostructure CeO2-CuO nanocomposite was prepared via hydrothermal route. The structural, morphological and optical properties of the composite were examined using different characterization techniques such as XRD, SEM, HR-TEM, UV-Vis absorption, FT-IR, AFM and VSM. The electrocatalytic performance of CeO2-CuO modified electrode towards the determination of L-cysteine was investigated using cyclic voltammetry and amperometry techniques. The modified electrode shows wide linear range from 0.01 x 10(-6) to 5 x 10(-3) M with a very low detection limit of 0.01 x 10(-6) M. The proposed electrochemical sensor displayed a sensitivity of 21.6 mu A cm(-2) MM-1 (R-2 = 0.997). The CeO2-CuO modified electrode reveals high stability, good selectivity and appreciable reproducibility. The present work demonstrates a facile electrochemical method for the determination of L-cysteine.
