Crustaceans form a highly diverged arthropod taxon and paraphyletic group. In Crustacea, one of the widely-studied and recognized family is Penaeidae (Malacostraca, Decapoda), which includes 48 recognized genera. Globally, this family is accepted for many economically important captured and cultured shrimp species as well as sea foodstuff. We established multiplex PCR and real-time PCR using five gene-specific conserved primers for the identification of ten different shrimp species. Furthermore, accurate and precise species identification was performed by the different sequence homology searching programs. The molecular data of a new shrimp species, Parapenaeopsis uncta was also analysed in this study. Real-time PCR would be the most promising methodology to discriminate the mislabeling or fraudulent commercial use of seafood.
