There is a lack of evidence on the role, use, benefit, and challenges of artificial nutrition and hydration (ANH) in children at the end of life. Parents express difficulty in making the decision to withdraw ANH. Decision-making on the role of ANH in individual children requires careful multidisciplinary team deliberation and clear care goals with children and families. Four pediatric palliative care specialist centers reviewed the current literature and developed consensus guidelines on ANH at the end of life, aiming to provide a practical approach to clinical decision-making for the role of ANH in children or young people entering the end-of-life phase.
