Study of the synergistic effect of Mangifera indica leaves extract and zinc ions on the mild steel corrosion inhibition in simulated seawater: Computational and electrochemical studies

The synergic corrosion inhibition role of different compounds of Mangifera indica L extract (M.i-L) and zinc cations was studied by combined electrochemical and computational methods. In saline solution the corrosion inhibitory power of M.i-L extract with respect to mild steel (MS) corrosion was studied by electrochemical techniques. Through FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, XRD and UV-visible analysis the M.i-L components interactions with zinc cations were studied. Results of polarization test indicated that the solution inhibited by combination of 400 mg/L M.i-L extract and 400 mg/L zinc cations resulted in the maximum corrosion inhibition power of 91%. The obtained results from electrochemical analysis (EIS and polarization) confirmed good synergistic effect of zinc ions and M.i-L extract on the corrosion prohibition of MS. Furthermore, molecular dynamics simulation and Monte Carlo studies demonstrated the M.i-L extract compounds interaction with zinc/iron cations on the steel surface. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V.
