The building sector has the peculiarity in the energy-climate problem of being less of a greenhouse gas emitter compared to other energy-consuming sectors. This article presents a feasibility study conducted as part of cross-border cooperation between Italy and Tunisia, showing that investing in renewable energy is appropriate for the building sector.
In the energy-climate problem, the building sector has a particularity: among the various sectors of energy consumption, it is proportionately less emitter of greenhouse gases, than energy consumer. To evolve to the required level of performance, an existing building must already consume little energy. On this basis, a local power generation system can be associated with the existing infrastructure to make it an energy generator. The energy balance is positive when there is surplus production. In this paper, we present a feasibility study of a project carried out as part of a cross-border cooperation between Italy and Tunisia setup at Research and Technology Center (CRTEn) in Borj-Cedria Tunisia. This project foresees the realization of sustainable energy microsystems device based on renewable sources that allows the integration and optimal management of energy services and resources gravitate to geographical areas such as groups of buildings and residential-type consumption centres. The feasibility study was conducted by the HOMER software. The results illustrated in this paper show in a way that planning for future investments in renewable energy is appropriate for buildings.
