Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of hybrid organic-inorganic materials with porous structure. With the merit of high surface area, uniform nanoscale cavity, good thermal and chemical stability and tailorable chemistry, this class of materials has recently attracted wide attention in sample preparation field. This review mainly focuses on various applications of MOFs as advanced sorbent materials in small organic analytes' enrichment, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), pharmaceuticals, herbicides, pesticides, toxins, dyes, endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and other compounds. Limitations of MOFs as sorbents are presented in detail, and further perspectives are discussed at last. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
