Shapeable three-dimensional CMC aerogels decorated with Ni/Co-MOF for rapid and highly efficient tetracycline hydrochloride removal

The practicability of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), induced by the three-dimensional coordination of metal nodes and organic linkers, is suppressed by its brittleness and powder features. Herein, growth of MOFs on a certain support involved with employing a highly porous, 3 dimensional (3D) carboxymethylcellulose sodium (CMC) aerogel as the substrate for Ni/Co-MOF is introduced to overcome the difficulties. The CMC aerogel not only acts as the growth template to balance the practicability and powder nature for Ni/Co-MOF, but also offers a highly 3D porous structure which enables the successful flow for solutions through CMC aerogel and promotes the interaction between solution molecules and Ni/Co-MOF by prolonging the contact time. Benefiting from the advantages, the Ni/Co-MOF@CMC aerogel can rapidly decontaminate tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) in 5 min with the removal efficiency of similar to 80%, showing an excellent adsorption capacity of 624.87 mg g(-1). In addition, the Ni/Co-MOF@CMC aerogel adsorbed TC shows excellent antibacterial activity against Salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus. The Ni/Co-MOF@CMC aerogel with highly porous structure exhibits promising practicability for contaminant removal in separation applications.
