Building information modelling (BIM) has a promising potential to meet the project goals of sustainable buildings. BIM can also be used for assessing green buildings, such as LEED, BEAM Plus and Green Star. GBI is a two-stage evaluation for certifying green buildings, namely design and operation assessment. BIM has not been fully utilised for sustainability evaluation, engineering analysis, and GBI coding. The main objective of this study is to assess the potential of using BIM for assessing Green Building Index in GBI certification of Non-Residential New Construction (NRNC) in Malaysia. This study examines the utilization of BIM in GBI assessment during the design and operation certifications. Data was collected through an online questionnaire survey distributed to 900 GBI members. A total of 117 surveys were returned (32% response rate) by the end of the eight-month data collection period. Partial least squares structural equation modelling was used to test the hypotheses of the relationship between the utilization of BIM and GBI criteria. This study aims to identify the capability of BIM Tools to process digital GBI criteria and render the application useable for GBI assessment. The SmartPLS software was utilised to test the hypotheses by using bootstrapping method with 5000 random samples. Results reveal satisfactory BIM performance for each GBI process for verification assessment. Moreover, the R-2 value of (0.262) is satisfactory and significant for the utilization of BIM in GBI assessment for all path coefficients of the hypothesised result for this Model.
