Central amygdala circuit dynamics underlying the benzodiazepine anxiolytic effect

Johannes Griessner et al.

Summary: Benzodiazepines modulate central amygdala microcircuit activity to gate amygdala output and play an anxiolytic role through specific neurons in the lateral CEA, highlighting the critical role of CEA circuitry in anxiety pathophysiology. This study provides a strategy for identifying biomedically relevant circuit interactions of clinical drugs.
