The demand of carbon/carbon composite material is continuously growing in many fields. However, difficulties are easily faced during wear process such as micro crack, fiber breakage and delamination. This study attempts to improve friction behavior of carbon/carbon composite material by using of ultrasonic vibration. Based on experimental results, it is raveled that ultrasonic vibration provides more excellent tribological properties. Obvious reduction in friction force and surface damages is obtained with ultrasonic vibration. Moreover, ultrasonic vibration also produces small size particles, which is more effective in lubrication film formation. In addition, due to reduced friction force and excellent heat dissipation, lower friction temperature is achieved. Finally, it appears that ultrasonic vibration is beneficial to improve friction behavior of carbon/carbon composite materials.
