This research numerically investigated a plasmonic nanobox cavity array situated on top of a back reflecting film to produce significant light confinement in close proximity to the nanobox configuration. The back reflector-coupled metallic nanostructure platform effectively absorbs incident light sources of a wide range of wavelengths due to local field enhancement from the coupling of the surface plasmon. The electromagnetic field distribution and light absorption spectra of the nanobox cavity platform were analyzed via a finite-difference time-domain method to identify the degree of absorption enhancement of the platform. By adjusting the design parameters of the nanostructure array, the absorption spectra peaks of the nanobox cavity platform can be precisely tuned. The proposed metallic nanostructure-based platform can be employed for various applications to achieve highly enhanced optical performance such as photovoltaics, surface-enhanced Raman scattering, and bio-sensing devices.
