The recyclable sulfated copper oxide catalyst in acetonitrile was effective in synthesizing N-fused benzimidazolo/benzothiazolo pyrimidine derivatives from 2-aminobenzimidazole/2-aminobenzothiazole, phenyl acetylene, and benzaldehydes, providing a unified approach to assemble a wide variety of fused pyrmidines.
